Joe Rice
Joe Rice is an attorney that actively practices for the law firm of Motley Rice in Charleston, South Carolina. Joe participates actively in litigation of complex matters, including extensive involvement in the asbestos litigation and representing the states in the litigation against the tobacco industry and more recently the opioid ligitation. Since 2001, Joe has been involved in the establishment and building of golf courses. He is a principal in Bull’s Bay Golf Club and the Spur at Northwoods. Bull’s Bay is a Mike Strantz designed in the lowcountry of South Carolina, located approximately 10 miles North of Charleston, South Carolina. Joe is the principle in Maverick Golf and acts as counsel to Maverick as well as one of the managing members.
Mike Jones
Mike is one of the lead shapers and has been working with Mike Strantz and Maverick Golf for over 20 years. Mike is a partner in Maverick and has shaped golf courses all over the world. In addition to his many years of shaping courses for Mike Strantz (Bulls Bay, MPCC, Caledonia, Tobacco Road), Mike has worked also with Arnold Palmer, Lanny Wadkins, Johnny Miller, Davis Love and many other world renowned golf course architects.
Jeff Jones
like his brother Mike, Jeff is also one of the lead shapers and a partner in Maverick Golf. Jeff has also worked all over the world shaping golf courses for the likes of Strantz, Palmer, Miller, Hanse, etc and has worked extensively with Mike Strantz on many of his golf courses including Monterey Peninsula, True Blue, Tobacco Road, Bulls Bay to name a few.
Frank Antonelli
Frank began his career in the golf industry at Muirfield Village Golf Club in 1988 and spent the next 12 years managing golf courses for Jack Nicklaus. In 1999 Frank founded Empire Sports Management with Maverick Golf partner Joe Rice and they developed Bulls Bay Golf Club as well as managing golf events and professional golfers. Through their partnership with Mike Strantz and Forrest Fezler while building Bulls Bay, Joe and Frank founded Maverick Golf Course Design.
Alan Black
Alan joined the Maverick team in 2018 after being hired as the golf course superintendent at Bulls Bay Golf Club. Prior to Bulls Bay, the native Scotsman had been at Kiawah Island Club as the superintendent of the Cassique golf Course. Alan is instrumental in providing the agronomy expertise for the construction and grown in of the projects.
Barry Gumb
Barry is a partner with the accounting firm Dixon, Hughes and Goodman located in Charleston, South Carolina. Barry Gumb has more than thirty years’ experience serving a diverse clientele of for-profit business, not-for-profit organizations, and individuals in the firm’s Charleston, South Carolina office. Barry is a founding partner of Maverick Golf and handles the company’s financial business.
